Goals and the Lion and the Gazelle

There’s a proverb that says “Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning a lion wakes up. It knows it must outrun the slowest gazelle or it will starve to death. It doesn’t matter whether you are a lion or a gazelle: when the sun comes up, you’d better be running.”

This has been used in many different settings to make many different points. Here I want to apply it to personal productivity and reaching your goals.

In terms of personal productivity it helps remind us that each day we have things we need to do to survive, maybe not in the literal sense, but definately in the business sense.  Do you know what you need to focus on today to reach your goal?  Have you taken the steps needed to get you there?  If not, what are you waiting for?  If you wait the goal can escape you and you will end up hungry for something more (the Lion).  If you wait your competition may take that customer you want to land (the Gazelle).

Take charge of today and chase after you goals like your life depends on it.
